SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Newsletter

Sustainable development is defined as using existing resources in a way that does not harm future generations, a vision which we put into concrete form in projects on global future issues.

The Millennium Project

Global Future Issues The Millennium Project is a global, participatory think tank organised as an NGO under the patronage of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), and focuses on examining future questions. Z_punkt has been involved in the Project’s overall research activities since 2001, and, since 2003, is head of the Project’s German Node which unites representatives of major German futures research institutions.

Zukünfte und Visionen Wald 2100

Long-term Perspectives of Forest and Land Stewartship On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the cooperation project “Zukünfte und Visionen Wald 2100” [Futures and Visions: Forest 2100] is examining processes of change in forest and land stewartship from a social perspective. Beginning in March 2007, Z_punkt has been developing scenarios within the framework of the project which allow for credible statements on the future of forests in 2020, 2050, and 2100.

Families in 2020

Work-life Balance as a Future Issue On behalf of the Bertelsmann foundation, Z_punkt designed and presented a two-and-a-half-day conference titled “Familie im Jahr 2020 – Work-Life-Balance als Herausforderung für die Zukunft” [Families in 2020 – Work-Life-Balance as a Challenge for the Future] in 2005.

Demographic Change and Nature Conservation

Regional Development Prototypes Within the framework of the Project “Demografischer Wandel und Naturschutz“ [Demographic Change and Nature Conservation], Z_punkt – in collaboration with Essen University – developed several regional types which showed the consequences of demographic change for nature conservation in Germany, incorporating specific regional and ecologic conditions. The project, conducted on behalf of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, ran from 2002 to 2004.
